Clark Peterson thinks 4E is going to be announced at GenCon. Who am I to argue?
I’ll admit it, I’m a fringe consumer. I put less than $300 a year into D&D, not counting GenCon. I don’t buy D&D minis, I get about 1 out of 10 supplements, and I am more likely to use community-created content than I am official content, in terms of adventures.
But Ryan Dancey, at least 5 months ago, didn’t seem to think 4.0 was on the radar at WotC. The WotC guys at Winter Fantasy laughed the question off, saying they had no plans through ‘08 for 4.0.
Now, I know a lot can change in a few months. But could it be that Clark (and the other “industry” folks he is talking about) are just being business-conscious, and maybe even a bit paranoid?
On an almost unrelated note, I really do hope 4E, when it does come, is open-source. The OGL made the game better, IMAO.

Dudes,
I do so hope 4e is announced so we can start to get 3.x stuff
on the cheap….that will rule!!!
Hmmmmm……need money and running out of new idea’s for D&D I know let’s make all the retail people buy ten of everything if they want to buy anything. Cause I mean damn we ARE D&D right? These geeks want to play they HAVE TO BUY OUR STUFF CAUSE WE FREAKING ROCK!
Oh, sorry haveing a 90’s/TSR moment but alas it has passed. WOTC is the leader of the industry because we allow them to be. They are a leader that has been abusing their community. Can we say 3.0….no wait um…..3.5 yeah thats what we gonna do! Oh yeah, and while we are at we are still going to publish 3.0 books and let you work out the conversation……CAUSE WE FREAKING ROCK GEEKS! And don’t get me started about some of the crap novels they put out. Yeah, i’m a thief but i’m gonna throw my short sword into a drider 50 feet away and kill it. (And why are driders working with drow? I mean damn even the video games got that one right.) Cause that sounds cool! (okay obscure but i’m still bitter about buying that one.)
So let me summarize WOTC wants us to invest thousands of dollars on a game that we like to play. And now they are running out of new idea’s they are going to come out with 4.0. Not to make a better product, no. They want to make more money. Well, I guess all I can say is this……pull that trigger bitches and I won’t be the only person having a 90’s/TSR flashback!
Well, 4th edition is definitely here now. I think there will be a bigger backlash than wizards expected, but hopefully rebellious gamers everywhere will pull together and realise that the mountain of supplement books they already have is enough and that they can create their own adventures and their own content.
